The Christchurch Gondola offers spectacular panoramic views of the city, Lyttelton Harbour, Pacific Ocean and beyond: it’s one of the best ways to see Christchurch!
Take in the views on your gondola ride to the summit station. Once at the top, you can explore walking tracks, experience the area’s history on the Christchurch Discovery Ride, and enjoy the fare and wares in the licensed café and gift store. There’s something for everyone: especially families!
Gondola Shuttle – our direct Gondola shuttle operates daily between Cathedral Square and the Christchurch Gondola. Purchase tickets onboard, and see the timetable here.
Spring Scavenger Hunt Sheets – kids can collect a free scavenger hunt sheet from the Base Station reception team between 26 September – 11 October for the spring school holidays!
Our cabins seat up to four people for a comfortable and stable ride. The 852 horizontal metre trip to the summit takes around 10 minutes and offers stunning views in all directions. We can stop the ride briefly for guests requiring assistance in and out of cabins including manual wheelchairs (up to a maximum of 600mm in width – please note the Gondola Shuttle bus is not wheelchair accessible). For frequent visitors we recommend our great-value Tram & Gondola Annual Pass – perfect for locals!
The base station at 10 Bridle Path Road has plenty of parking for cars and coaches, and the summit station atop Mt Cavendish features include the licensed Red Rock Café, audiovisual Christchurch Discovery Ride, and Shop at the Top gift store – please note these close 30 minutes before the last ride from the summit station.

There are a range of ways to get to the Christchurch Gondola:
By car or rideshare: a 15-minute drive from central Christchurch, there is plenty of free parking in the large base station carpark.
By direct Gondola Shuttle: our shuttle operates between central Christchurch and the Christchurch Gondola daily. The shuttle departs from Cathedral Square (Tram Stop 2) on the half hour from 9:30am – 3:30pm in summer, and from the Christchurch Gondola on the hour from 10am – 4pm in summer. See the full timetable here. Return and one-way tickets can be purchased from our Tram Host at Tram Stop 2 or from the driver (card payments only).
By public bus: bus number 8 operates year-round from the Christchurch Bus Interchange and stops directly outside the Christchurch Gondola base station.
By bike: a bike rack is available to the left of our base station entrance.
