Sit back and take in the natural beauty of the Botanic Gardens in comfort with a guided tour on board an eco-friendly electric shuttle.

Your guide’s live commentary details the seasonal highlights you pass during the 50-minute tour. It’s a great way to see this 21-hectare space for those who have limited time or mobility, or for garden enthusiasts: there’s something to see every season! Bookings are recommended.

WINTER DISCOUNT: save 20% off Botanic Gardens Tour tickets this winter using the promo code WINTER25! Offer valid until 31 August 2025.

The Botanic Gardens Tour offers tours between 10am – 4pm daily in summer and between 11am – 3:30pm Thursday – Sunday in winter. Tours take around 50 minutes and end back at the departure point. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your tour time to check in with your driver and take your seats on board.

The tour departs from behind the Peacock Fountain close to the Botanic Gardens entrance on Rolleston Avenue: look for our purple flag marking the departure point. Bookings are recommended and can be made via our website, by phoning us on 03 366 7830 or by booking with the driver for the next available tour. Pick up may be available from outside Ilex Cafe subject to seat availability: please see the sign on the day for the relevant timings.

Each shuttle with trailer can seat up to 19 guests plus a driver. Our electric shuttles use clear plastic sides to keep our guests dry on rainy days. A small stepstool is available for guests who need assistance boarding. Please note we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs on the tour at this time.

The tour departs from nearby the Peacock Fountain close to the Botanic Gardens entrance on Rolleston Avenue.

There are plenty of on-street and off-street parking options near the Botanic Gardens: see Christchurch City Council’s website for parking locations.

For guests arriving by Christchurch Tram, stop 13 is directly across the street. The tour departure point is also a 2-3 minute walk along Rolleston Avenue from Punting on the Avon’s Antigua Boat Sheds site.

We had Isabel as our lovely tour guide she was very informative and friendly!

Beyond my expectations. I recommend starting at the top where the trolley stops. It's very steep in some areas, but they do have stairs.
Fatima A. Junaid
It’s beautiful. I go there every time I am in Christchurch. The location is perfect you have the market and museum next to it. It has a beautiful collection and I love the big trees. Their winter garden is not as nice as the Auckland’s one.
Lutz's place
A worthwhile place to spend some time and enjoy the garden,

The environment is remarkable, with birds and ducks gracefully flying and wandering around the garden. The birds are notably plump and unafraid of humans, creating a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and people. It’s truly a fantastic aspect of this place.

Summer here is just perfect, with countless huge trees that seem to carry centuries of history. The effort New Zealanders must have invested in preserving this natural and cultural heritage is impressive—trees, the church, the community—it all comes together beautifully.

Adjacent to the park is a river, and on the opposite side stand some ancient buildings, adding to the charm. It’s a fantastic spot to explore with family, offering a wide variety of plants and an atmosphere that invites you to slow down and admire the beauty around you。
