The spring school holidays are here, and with some warmer weather on the way it’s a great time to get out and explore Christchurch! Here are some great family-friendly ideas:
Visit Christchurch’s inner city – there is plenty to see and do right now in the centre of Christchurch! Kids are free on the Christchurch Tram* and there are lots of fun things to do around the circuit, including special school holiday events on at Turanga and the Art Gallery as well as everyday family favourites such as Margaret Mahy playground and Rollickin’ gelato. Plus the new Riverside Market is opening on 30 September right by tram stop 4 with lots of interesting shops and stalls!
Walking tracks – spring is a great time to stretch your legs! Check out The Breeze Walking Festival on during the school holidays, or head up the Gondola and explore some of the great walking tracks accessible from the top station.
Botanic Gardens – the blossoms and magnolias are in bloom so it’s a great time for a picnic and visit to the Children’s Playground. The Botanic Gardens also have their latest adventure trail running for the school holidays – pop in to the Visitors Centre to grab a map and follow the trail.
Hanmer Springs – the cute alpine village of Hanmer Springs is a great day trip from Christchurch! Explore some of the many walking and cycling tracks around or climb Conical Hill, take a dip in the hot pools or jump on board a Jet Boat ride!
With lots of great activities to do in and around Christchurch, there is plenty to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays!
